Founder & Executive Director
Apoorva is the Founder of and Executive Director at ALPN. Before starting ALPN in October 2023, she worked as a Research Fellow with Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy's JALDI (Justice, Access and Lowering Delays in India) Initiative. At JALDI, she worked in the areas of judicial reform and increasing access to justice. She has also worked with Mint as a legal writer. Her areas of interest include animal law, governance, public policy, environmental law and constitutional law. Apoorva graduated with a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from National Law University, Delhi in 2014. She completed her LL.M. from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2018 with a dissertation exploring the confluence of animal rights and religion in India from a legal perspective.
Researcher
Pallavi is a Researcher at ALPN. In this role, Pallavi is committed to supporting research that promotes systemic, sustainable improvements in animal welfare and broader intersectional justice issues. She brings extensive experience in social justice research to her current role. Having led initiatives such as Consumers For Sustainability, where she served as Managing Director, Pallavi is passionate about raising awareness of the environmental, public health, and animal welfare impacts of animal agriculture in India. Pallavi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Delhi, a Master’s in Social Work specialising in Community Organisation and Development Practice from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, and a diploma in Animal Protection Laws from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
Project Consultant
Priyansha Chouhan is a legal and research professional. Her interests and specialisation lie in renewable energy, climate change, and environmental law. With experience as a Senior Research Fellow at Land Conflict Watch, she has authored journalistic and academic research reports on issues such as tribal rights, biodiversity, forcible eviction, and balancing development with social justice. Previously, she has worked on both sides of the court, serving as a research assistant at the High Court of Madhya Pradesh and practicing as a lawyer. She holds a B.A. LL.B. (Hons) from Hidayatullah National Law University. Her role as a project consultant with the Animal Law and Policy Network is focused on researching the impact of climate change on dairy farming.

Shreeja is the Director of Operations at ALPN Research Foundation, where she ensures that the organisation’s strategic vision in animal law and policy is grounded in operational excellence and day-to-day responsiveness. With extensive experience working within research-driven NGOs, she is adept at designing systems that support rigorous policy advocacy, legal research, and collaborative campaigns. Her strength lies in bridging the gap between the research team and operations – translating the needs of researchers into sustainable workflows, compliance frameworks, and resource strategies. Shreeja holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, and a Master’s in Public Policy from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.

Sruthi is a Researcher at ALPN. She is an environmental lawyer with a B.A., LL.B. from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) and an LL.M. in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from TERI School of Advanced Studies (New Delhi). Sruthi has previously worked as an environmental lawyer with Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE), presently known as DC Law Chambers, for nearly three years. During her master's, she super-specialised in animal law and policy. Her research has focused on various animal welfare issues and how the law can be utilised to address them. Some of her research pertains to the need for reconsideration of the moral status of non-human animals, infrastructure development and the associated habitat fragmentation, and animals during disasters.

Vaishnavi is working as a Researcher with ALPN Research Foundation. Vaishnavi obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies (affiliated to Karnataka State Law University) in 2019 and went on to work with the Nudge Foundation as a Consultant. After working on sustainable poverty alleviation projects, she pursued an M.A. Human Rights Degree at Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany) in 2021. During this period, she gained valuable insights into several areas including philosophy of human rights, business and human rights, human rights law, etc. Her courses highlighted the interconnections between animals and humans.

Anupama Hebbar graduated from National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in 2008. Except for a short stint with a law firm in London, Anupama has been in active practice in Bengaluru. She is primarily a commercial disputes lawyer but advises and appears for animal rights organisations in several litigations, including strategic ones. She helps out with rescues and is called upon by many in Bengaluru for any and all advice in relation to animals.
Founder, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy
Arghya Sengupta is the Founder and Research Director of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, New Delhi. He was educated at the National Law School of India University Bengaluru and the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar and Lecturer in Law. He is the author of three acclaimed books - Independence and Accountability of the Indian Higher Judiciary, Hamīñ Ast? A Biography of Article 370 (co-authored), and The Colonial Constitution. He has written over 20 articles and essays in leading peer-reviewed journals and collections, including in the Law Quarterly Review, Public Law and the Oxford Companion to Politics in India. He is a columnist at The Times of India and The Telegraph.
Indian Administrative Service Officer (Retd)
D.V. Prasad is a distinguished former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, bringing over 36 years of public service experience across various high-level positions in both the Government of Karnataka and the Government of India. He superannuated in November 2020 as the Chairman and MD of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), overseeing the nation's key food security apparatus. His expertise encompasses a wide array of sectors, including Commerce & Industry, Infrastructure, Finance, Education, and Agriculture. He held the position of Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, for the Government of Karnataka, and brings deep experience of these sectors.
Strategy and Evaluation Specialist
Nirupama Sarma is a seasoned strategy and evaluation specialist with a strong background in non-profit advocacy and campaigning. With extensive experience across South Asia and Africa, she has worked on public health, child rights, and HIV prevention for organisations like the UN and Médicins Sans Frontières. In recent years, Nirupama has focused her expertise on her commitment towards animal rights and veganism. She is the author of a landmark three-phase study, "Vegan Advocacy in India: An Exploratory Study." She is also producing and co-directing a forthcoming documentary exploring veganism in India, which frames animal rights as a social justice issue, connecting it with movements for women, children, and minorities. Nirupama brings her skills in strategy and evaluation to ALPN, driven by a deep commitment to interspecies justice.
